Who is Kate & Co.? 

Five years ago, when Denise Wallner opened a consignment store, Kate & Co. was just a dream.  Denise didn’t have the necessary means to open a retail business, so she founded the perfect little shop, where customers provided the entire inventory.  Well, Denise thought this would be a snap because she had a 3 year daughter and knew EVERYTHING there was to know about children’s clothing, right?  And after all, she loved to shop!  Denise couldn’t be more wrong.  She saw brand names she had never heard of and she could barely pronounce, European brands as they were called, and nothing that she had ever seen in a mall store.  But Denise soon realized she had found free lessons in the art of clothing children, which would soon teach her everything she ever wanted to know.  And the teachers WERE HER CUSTOMERS!

During the next five years Denise learned about brand names, colors, fabrics and size runs.   She also learned what traditional, smocked, classic, trendy and fashionable meant, and how customers had searched for that special, extra soft, cutest, most unique, adorable, hip, traditional, timeless, or classic outfit or gift for a baby shower or birthday party.  But most importantly, customers wanted gifts which would eventually be tucked away in that child’s keepsake box for a lifetime.

Denise found many vendors of timeless, quality craftsmanship-guided items and talented local creators of art, fabrics, jewelry, embroidery and ribbons, just to name a few items.  With all of that talent behind her, Denise decided it was time to fulfill her original dream, of owning a high-end children’s boutique.  She wanted a shop where customers could be assured of unique clothing and gifts of the highest quality.  Have you ever shopped all day and still not find that perfect little outfit for a special photograph or occasion? We have taken the children’s clothing boutique shopping experience one step further and put you into the design process!  If you would like to take a personal part in the creation of your children’s clothing, we absolutely encourage it.  Each child’s size, frame, measurements and personality are uniquely theirs, and you can capture and reflect that in custom-made outfits.  Our in-house seamstress will take your child’s measurements, and then assist you in choosing the components of your child’s ensemble. You’ll have a blast mixing and matching fabrics, buttons, ribbons and other embellishments to create unique outfits.  So, give us a call and set up your personal appointment or simply stop in to get started on your special outfit today. 
Every type of retailer has its spot in the marketplace.  Some carry cookie cutter bargains, every day wear, closeouts, big box quality and price, one-time buys or other commodities.  At Kate & Co. we truly believe “there is nothing more precious than your child.”  It seems as if I was pregnant, and then I blinked, and suddenly my daughter, Abigail Kate, was 8 years old, in 2nd grade and giggling about the Valentines she received from “yucky boys!”  If only I could freeze that moment of innocence in time.
